Deep House / Techno / Tech House
Influenced primarily by hip-hop as a teenager and surrounded by Arabic folk music throughout his upbringing Wael Najm was introduced to minimal techno and underground house music by a sibling while at university and began actively discovering Melbourne’s underground club scene and Beirut’s club culture in early 2002 where his passion for beats and melodies escalated into a strong desire to induce dance through an emphasis on hypnotic, soulful rhythm and groove.
Hosting a bi-weekly ethnic community radio show (3CR) allowed Wael to explore further electronic music and back catalogues of mediocre jazz/funk/soul until he was fired for conflicting the music policy of the station for playing out of context club music and political Hip Hop.
Unrepentant, Wael began to spin privately until he was invited to play in Melbournian clubs and bars. Less constrained and more determined to conflict musical policies of questionable establishments, Wael is surely and unapologetically presenting his selections of sensual and sultry minimal deeper house and techno as a member of Sound of Thought.
